About the LCA
The London Cornish Association was founded in 1898 although there had been an annual Cornish dinner organised some years before. The first was in 1886 when some Helston men living in London organised a dinner to celebrate what they hoped would be the election of Mr Walter Molesworth St Aubyn to Parliament. St Aubyn unfortunately lost the election, but, in typical Cornish fashion, not wishing to spoil the arrangements which had already been made, the dinner went ahead. The dinner became an annual event and in 1888, as an offshoot of it, a Cornish Club was started, which in 1898 became The London Cornish Association. The Annual Dinner, which is usually held in March, has remained the highlight in the Association's calendar of events.

The other highlight in the calendar is the prestigious Trelawny Lecture, which was established by the Association in 1987 as a way of enabling important Cornish people to give a lecture on a subject of their choice. The late Dr A L Rowse gave the first lecture on "Bishop Colenso and South Africa". Other lectures since have included "Cornwall: A European Region", given by Christopher Beazley MP; "One Hundred Years of Cornish Connections” by Professor Philip Payton of the Institute of Cornish Studies; “Our Cornish Heritage” by General Sir Richard Trant, Chairman of Cornish Heritage; “The Eden Project” by Jonathan Ball; “Steam – the Cornish Revolution” by Phil Hosken and “The Cornish Assembly” by Bert Biscoe, Cornwall County Councillor and Chairman of the Cornish Constitutional Convention.

The Association meets in central London for social events when there is time to welcome new members, renew old acquaintances, catch up on the gossip and discuss the latest news from Cornwall. Two
family history conferences are held in April and October. At the end of the year an annual church service is held with sometimes a Christmas party. There are also regular monthly lunches held at Methodist Central Hall Westminster, during the year enabling many members to meet up within the Capital.
